Following on from my chibi version of Dalek Thay, I've moved on to another member of the Cult of Skaro, Dalek Sec. Of course I couldn't resist drawing my 'super deformed' Sec in a slightly more interesting "pose"
This is based on the scene towards the end of the Doctor Who series 3 episode Daleks In Manhattan where Dalek Sec's casing opens to reveal the mutant within.
This took about 15 hours work of which 7.5 hours were the line art, 2.5 were the flat colouring and 5 were the airbrushing, making this one of the most time consuming pieces to date.
I'm really pleased with how this turned out, even though I had to work from three different source images of the casing for the top, middle and bottom, each with slightly different camera angle and light source.
And wow is it difficult to colour a solid black object!
This is Doctor Who fan art, I do not claim any ownership of the Daleks, Dalek Sec or the show. I don't stand to make any commercial gain from sharing this image.
Another shocker... Before, in the older series you never did see the mutant. But as computer graphics get better you see more of the real dalek...good picture comrade!
WOW. How did you find out about what the bottom inside of the casing looks like? Who knew the tentacles went down that far? What episode is that from??
It's from Daleks in Manhattan. I actually think it's a silly design change to make it possible for Sec to absorb a man and emerge as half man/half Dalek later in the episode, doesn't make any sense if you think about it. But it's still a fun image to draw
And great job- it really did turn out awesomely.
