Artist's Comments
This juvenile common kingfisher is an entirely digital airbrush piece finished just in time to be a xmas present.
Drawn using the same method as my red squirrel, I worked with AutoDesk SketchBook Pro on a Tablet PC (drawing directly on the screen) using the airbrush and the eraser tools only. As always, I worked from a photo reference but drew and coloured 'by eye'. This piece took 14 hours, or 15 if you include the hour I lost when my art program crashed during what should have been the final save! The reference image was creative commons licensed and found on Flickr, taken by user AnneTanne [link] Update 29th of December 2008: Adjusted the background size and position to allow the image to benefit from the 'rule of thirds'. Thanks to =Awfulsouls for the tip! Update 11th of January 2009: Now submitted in the *AnimalsAndNatureClub Birds contest 15 step 'walk through' image available here [link] |
